A Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is an electrochemical installation that stores electricity and releases it on demand. When paired with solar PV, it captures the energy that would otherwise be exported to the grid at low feed-in rates — and makes it available exactly when your consumption peaks or when grid prices are highest.
